The quiet hour of the day

Book a chair
Dark leather barber chairs in a wood-panelled room
A barber in a leather apron standing with arms folded
A straight razor and a shaving brush laid on a cream cloth

Two rooms, built by hand, where an appointment is an hour and nobody is waiting behind you.

Designing the house

Built like a library, run like a kitchen

Callum Wren trained as a joiner before he ever picked up scissors. Both rooms are his: oak, brass, leather, and nothing that needs explaining. Everything you can touch was made to last the next thirty years.

The house

Five barbers, one standard

An older man with a grey beard in a dark suit, hand at his chin
Founder

Alistair Hatch

Third generation. His grandfather cut hair in Leith from 1948; his father in the New Town. Alistair opened Stockbridge in 2016 with one chair, one razor and an hour per appointment, which everyone told him would not work.

Co-founder, the rooms

Callum Wren

Joiner turned barber. Built both rooms, cuts three days a week, and still sharpens every razor in the house himself.

Head barber, Stockbridge

Ewan Murray

Twelve years with the house. Classic scissor work, the long conversation about what your hair will actually do, and the best shave in the city.

Barber, New Town

Rafael Costa

Trained in Porto, where the straight razor never went out of fashion. Beards, shaves and the quietest hands in the New Town.

Letters from the house

One letter a month: what the rooms are doing, who has joined, and the odd note on how to look after a razor.
